9 Island before and after

We’re coming to the end of an extensive interior renovation of all the public spaces at this signature condo on Miami Beach. This project called for a complete design update to the Mezzanine level and all the amenities as well as the lobby and hallways. Here are some before and after photos for comparison.

Convention Center Park

On May 3, 2019 Critical Path, the Mayor of Miami Beach, City Commissioners and others celebrated the groundbreaking for the Convention Center “Pride” Park – Over six acres of parking lot are being transformed into a public park, including a tropical garden, game lawn, shaded areas, veterans’ plaza, and public art. In total, $7 million is being allocated to Art in Public Spaces, representing the largest response to a call to artists in the history of Miami- Dade County, and an important aspect of integrating culture into the everyday lives of the community.

The Convention Center’s existing truck staging and parking lot is transformed into a new world-class public park with plantings that showcases the unique flora and botany of Miami Beach, add 175 new shade trees, and provide flexible lawn areas. A Veteran’s Memorial is designed to seamlessly weave into the park experience while providing a place to honor and tell the unique story of Miami Beach’s Veterans.

This new green space will become a central public space for Miami Beach and will be the centerpiece for a world-class Convention Center. Critical Path is the General Contractor for this $9.5M project.

 

Carl Fisher Club House

Critical Path has started on the complete renovation of the historic Carl Fisher Club House on Miami Beach as part of the new Convention Center footprint. Working with Richard Heisenbottle, FAIA and the City of Miami Beach on this interesting project.

9 Island Ave – Midway

Critical Path is working on a comprehensive renovation of this ’80’s condo building. So far the corridors are complete and totally updated and phase 2 is underway with a complete renovation of the public areas underway. It’s great to see an iconic building like this one get a complete facelift to bring it into 2018.

Construction has finished on this ground-up retail building in the Miami Design District at 80 NE 40th St. Awaiting its first tenant, the building was designed by MKDA Architects and is a stunning example of contemporary design in concrete and glass.

Critical Path has been selected as the General Contractor in collaboration with DSS Condo as the owner’s representative. A full gut out and interior renovation is in the works for this early 80’s classic. This multi-phased project will boast new contemporary interiors in all public spaces and corridors upon completion

Curtain wall glass is going in and exterior work is wrapping up on our Design District project. The design by MKDA will stand out nicely in this developing area.

AIA Conference on Architecture
As an AIA Allied Member, Critical Path recently attended the AIA Conference on Architecture in Orlando, FL, April 27-29. The conference engaged head-on with important trending topics around advocacy, resiliency, climate change, social impact, and more. We were graced with an empowering speech by previous First Lady, Michelle Obama, as well as many other amazing speakers touching on bringing together science and design. Make sure to join next for next year’s conference in the Big Apple (NYC)!

DANA STUNKEL
Meet Dana Stunkel, our Operations Manager

As a Senior Project Manager and Operations Manager at Critical Path, Dana touches anything construction related for all projects that the company is involved in.

A native of Denver, CO., Dana has been part of the Critical Path family for seven years and has been involved in the historic restoration projects that are a company niche- projects on SOBE, Lincoln Road, and the MiMO District. “It’s a unique component to South Florida,” he says, “the Art Deco preservation district and the evolving interest in preserving historic architecture throughout the city.”

“The challenges are the blending of old and new – you’re limited in what you can change visually. With the Vagabond Motel project in 2016 we were working from old photographs from the 1950’s trying to figure out what things were made of – the design of the windows, all sorts of details. The challenge of these projects is integrating the new with the old – new systems and technologies that need to blend seamlessly with the historic fabric of these older buildings.”

An industry veteran for more than 20 years, Dana grew up with a father who was a GC, working in Colorado, Hawaii, Alaska and now Florida. Dana came up in the ranks hands-on as a carpenter in Denver. “He’s one of the rare guys that truly knows all facts of construction from a hands-on perspective; a real builder”, says Craig Schaffer, CEO.

Century 21 Project Complete

Critical Path Construction takes on and completes the task of a massive renovation of nearly 100,000 square feet of retail space, adjoining offices and exterior space at SawGrass Mills Mall in 2016 for the first Century 21 store in Florida. The project was completed on time for opening during the holiday shopping season.

Meeting Deadlines for Century 21

We’re working 7 days a week and adding extra shifts to get the first Century 21 Florida location at Sawgrass Mills ready for the holiday season. Over 100,000 square feet of department-store level finish.

Going up in the Design District


Things are moving on this stunning Design District project at 80 NE 40th St, Miami. The design by MKDA (http://www.mkda.com/) will complement the amazing development happening all over the area. It’s going to be very cool.

Next – President Hotel Annex SOBE


Development work has started on the Annex – a 5-story addition to the President Hotel at 1425 Collins Ave – this new building will fit into the Art Deco Historic District adding 25 keys and a rooftop pool to the existing property.
